Síle's journey into accessible mountain walking wasn't
planned. It started when her grandmother turned 72 and wanted
to walk the Gap of Dunloe — one of Ireland's most stunning
passes. That single afternoon changed everything. She realised
that most of Ireland's finest landscapes were being missed by
older walkers, not because they couldn't do it, but because
nobody had bothered to write down what the trails were
actually like.
That realisation led her through a Mountain Guide
qualification with the Irish Mountain Guide Association and a
fellowship in trail accessibility through the Irish Wheelchair
Association. She's now completed detailed assessments of over
30 major Irish walking routes, measuring gradients, surface
conditions, rest points, and everything else that matters when
you're planning a day in the hills.
What drives Síle is simple: age shouldn't mean missing out.
Her approach combines rigorous on-the-ground research with
real conversations with hundreds of older walkers. No
assumptions. No guesswork. Just evidence-based information
that actually reflects what you'll encounter on the trail.
